knits to know
Friday, November 5
'Tis the season of epic knitwear! Among the brands crushing sweater weather is Rag & Bone with the Fair Isle turtleneck, above (I also love this printed puffer!) and Andersson Bell, below, (previously sold out on Le Catch and now re-stocked here), with a hoodie and all. Also distinctly cool are these by Doen, Something Navy, Zara, and Sea New York. Happy Friday!
hollie and merry
Wednesday, November 3
It's been a while since I've bundled up for the cold, but helping me get back into the chilly swing of things is Amsterdam-based Hollie Mercedes, a seasoned master of wintry-dressing arts. Her unerring strategy: bright, bold knits, quilted jackets and funky, unexpected accessories. Among my favorites: this wool knitted And Other Stories hood, these vibrant oversized turtlenecks by Balenciaga (below), Zara, Line & Dot and Free People, this throw-over-everything quilted jacket from The Frankie Shop, pictured, this extra large (extra cozy) Zara scarf, this Last made-for-layering dickie and these balaclavas by Leandra Medine Cohen x Closed Denim and Kule.
saturday scores
Saturday, October 30
It started out as a Halloween shopping mission with my children but somehow for me it segued into a Walmart fashion spree! I gleaned the print skirt and oversized knit, above, along with more winter-ready additions like this adorable ski-spirited zip-up knit, this throw-on-and-go dress, this belted fringed cardigan, and this sherpa-lined bomber. Check out this edit of goodies here! This post is sponsored by Walmart.
ciao ciao
Thursday, October 28
For a few minutes there yesterday, I felt like I was in a sun-soaked Umbrian piazza, ciao-ciao-ing with some spirited locals, awaiting my creamy Cacio e Peppe--all because of my Euro-chic vintage-looking paisley tunic. The reality: I was sitting in an alleyway, off Canon Drive in Beverly Hills, about to eat a chopped salad. But, honestly, that is the transporting power of my new beloved Zimmermann top, which looks as if I had snapped it up in Ibiza or Capri! I actually bought it from Farfetch--A.K.A. the endlessly stylish rabbit hole lined with the most-coveted and hard-to-find pieces curated from under-the-radar boutiques all over the world (yes, like Ibiza and Capri). To prove my point and then some: take a look at this, this, this and this! Enjoy the rabbit-hole run and, better yet, use my bespoke 10% off code MARLIEN10 while you're at it. You're welcome! (T&C's apply!)
the shearling jacket
Wednesday, October 27
Chic Parisians like Anne-Laure Mais, above, and Leia Szef, below, are fending off fall's first chill with a shearling jacket (in Sandro and Ralph Lauren respectively), and I'm inclined to follow suit! My dream would be this one by Isabel Marant, but I could also be happy and warm in a style slightly less pricey, such as these from Mother, Stand Studio, Bernardo NY, and H&M.
love the label
Tuesday, October 26
There's so much to love about newly-discovered Love the Label, starting with its bohemian-chic Ulla Johnson-meets-Sea New York vibe. Perhaps most compelling is its refreshingly affordable price point. Everything comes in under $300. My favorites include the puff-sleeve batik print dress, above, year-round wearable with sandals or knee-high boots, along the floral jumpsuit below (layer it over a black turtleneck to autumn-proof it), and the vibrant balloon-sleeve blouse, below. Check out so many more cute pieces here!
hard core
Tuesday, October 26
Whenever my twin sister shoots Gwyneth Paltrow, she makes an extra effort to dress up, even it's just throwing on a tailored blazer over a sweater or a pair of Chanel flats instead of Converse high-tops. Her approach has been historically successful (GP would concur) until earlier this month, when the last shoot had her working in a no-shoes-allowed house--and, unfortunately, in old mismatched socks. D'oh! In short, she was mortified. But I think she compensated for it--and then some--by executing these beautiful pics, featuring G. Label's latest Core Collection, replete with pieces that will look like she made an effort to dress up! Next time!
scarfing
Monday, October 25
I'm seeing the matching scarf-and-sweater styling combo everywhere (including Banana Republic, above, and below), and I want to pile it on, too! Ganni makes it easy for me, with its all-in-one cable knit sweater, along with The Frankie Shop, Le 17 Septembre, H&M, Zara, and Brochu Walker.
leather weather
Monday, October 25
So when did "bomb cyclone" become part of Southern California's vernacular? Can't we just call it, like, leather weather instead? It sounds a lot less ominous! Besides, this season's newly wide-legged leather trousers are all I want to wear when the mercury (or as today's case may barometric pressure) dips here. I love Loulou Studio's ankle-grazing pair, above, because I can wear them with sneakers, loafers or boots, and they can be dressed up or down. These vegan leather options by The Reformation and Nanushka are also amazing, along with these up-cycled pairs by AGOLDE and Deadwood.

sweet carolyn
Friday, October 22
I may look happy below but, to be perfectly honest, it's not all that fun posing next to Carolyn Murphy for a picture! She's ridiculously beautiful! Actually, she's more radiant in real life than on all the magazine covers and runways you've seen her on. And, yes, on the inside too! An environmental advocate, painter, sculptor, avid surfer and friend, Carolyn just launched her first capsule collection for Mother on Net-A-Porter today. All the thoughtfully designed pieces--denim jackets, patchwork jeans, a cotton-poplin blouse, track pants--are responsibly made and amazingly imbued with a modern Americana style. My favorite: the army jacket, above, with a detachable hoodie and cuffs! Perfect for hanging out together in Malibu. Check out the collection here!
