sweaters and skirts
Wednesday, September 8
I'm liking fall's new power duo: a slinky skirt and an oversized sweater! The look is relaxed yet feminine, but properly pulling it off lies in perfect proportions. The skirt should be calf-grazing long and slimmer fitting to counterbalance the loose yet not too-big knit. These sweaters from Anine Bing, Loulou Studio, Kule, and La Ligne are excellent places to start, teamed with these spot-on skirts (or slipdresses) by Vince, J.Crew, and Amy Lynn.

I had long assumed that the Birkenstocks I used to wear to Dead shows was not likely to find its way into my closet again, but they did, and are now a legit fashionable option, no less! The newest comeback gaining a foothold this fall, however, is the Boston style, seen here--and already selling out at mainstream stores like Madewell and Urban Outfitters. I'm just wrapping my head around them--but my toes are already 100% in! I prefer them in darker hues, like these here!
white on

This is your annual reminder to keep wearing white post-Labor Day, and these pics perfectly demonstrate how! The Sezane trousers, above, are polished and tailored--plus, they will whisk through winter work days, no problemo! These right-now cut jeans from Khaite, Re/Done or Toteme will also do the trick because they're more ivory than flat white. I also love the idea of white cardigan as a vibrant layer or accent. I found these versions that are similar in spirit to the one below from Gucci, Chloe and Ulla Johnson.

One summer style staple I refuse to take off this fall are my colorful beaded necklaces. I adore the vibrant, unexpected pop they bring to any outfit, and I like mixing them with more evergreen (gold-link) chains. I got mine from Maison Irem, below, but you can also check these good options out from Adina's Jewels, Roxanne Assoulin and Anita Berisha.

pre-fall prep
Wednesday, September 1
I woke up wanting it to be August 32nd today, but, nope. September's here--along with its back-to-business style. The new must-have staples I want in my back-to-reality rotation include a cropped tailored jacket like the Mango, above (but I really like these from Veronica Beard, Acne Studios and J.Crew), a plush wide collared sweater (this, this and this), ballet slippers (similar to below), low-heeled ankle boots (Isabel Marant, Chinese Laundry) and tons of right-now-cut t-shirts from Amo. Here I come, autumn!
trouser time
Monday, August 30
My jeans typically go on hiatus from June through August. This year, it looks like they'll be extending their time off. Because this fall it's all about trousers. Fortunately, they are as versatile, easy going and everyday wearable as denim--but decidedly more polished and refreshingly different. Londoner Emma Hill is showing me exactly how they're done well. Firstly, she tones them down with relaxed footwear (slides and sneaks) and simple tops (this, this and this). I like these (most flattering) trousers from Acne Studios, Loulou Studio, And Other Stories, Pixie Market and Zara. The beige pair, pictured above, can be found here.

LA-based blogger Julie Sarinana's take on end-of-summer dressing is totally spot on, because pretty much every piece she wears can easily transition into fall. The ones I especially want: the AGOLDE cut-away black tank top and DL1961 wide-leg jeans (immediately below), the Enitreworld striped shorts and top set, the R13 oversized white shirt (last pic), the Loewe basket tote, the Bassike black dress, and the LPA puff-sleeve blouse (below).

back at it
Thursday, August 26
Back-to-school shopping for my sons this week somehow yielded additions to my fall uniform. Go figure! For starters, I snapped up the do-it-all J.Crew blazer/cardigan hybrid, above. It's super soft and incredibly versatile (with jeans, a dress, sweats, etc.)--and it's 30% off! While I was there, I also picked up the pretty pearl lariat, below, that I will also layer with my gold chain necklace. Then I scored these New Balance running sneakers that are equal parts fashionable and functional. Exactly what I need these days!
