Kate Moss re-emerged in London last week after isolating in a Cotswolds cocoon--appearing as chic as ever, face mask and all. (A disposable surgical one, BTW!) The linchpin to her back-in-action, up-to-the-minute look: a full, midi-length denim skirt. Despite its retro spirit, this silhouette is actually fall-fresh, with designers issuing myriad options this season. I scoured the market for the best ones, and they hail from Tibi, Wales Bonner, Isabel Marant, Topshop, Old Navy ($20!), Etsy (vintage!) and Chic Wish ($39!). Love this skirt with high knee-high boots like these from Loeffler Randall, Sam Edelman, Vince Camuto, and Paris Texas.

The only thing better than a really well-cut, super-flattering tank top is a tank top that can be worn forward and backward for two distinctly different looks. Pixie Market's reversible top is rendered in a ribbed knit, so it's suitable for fall. And the navy shade makes it chicer than chic. Yes, please!

While I wilted through LA's historic heatwave over the long weekend, others in the Insta-sphere breezed into fresh autumn air, debuting extra big turtlenecks, dark-wash jeans, long-sleeve dresses and oversized trenches. All these comfy, chunky layers are making me crave cooler weather--and its newly requisite black Toteme jeans, below, this leopard print dress (last pic), this price-is-right relaxed-fit H&M turtleneck ($19!), this oversized Mango trench, and these everyday-chic Isabel Marant boots.

For me, this long weekend is ushering in crazy hot temperatures (100+) and crazy good deals, like Topshop's below belted khakis on sale for $14 (no, that's not a typo!) and the $60 perfectly-cut, leg-legnthening jeans (below) I've been wearing non-stop, immediately below (I'm on the left ;). PLUS: the works-with-everything double-breasted blazer, the navy tie jacket, and the comfy camel trousers, all pictured below. Shop the mega sale here! P.S. While my clothes may be moving into fall, my feet remain firmly stuck in summer. Which is to say: I'm going to keep stepping out in sandals till... I can't. Europeans Tamu McPherson, above, and Monikh Dale, below, pull off this style feat--layered on top, bare below--in these recent Insta snaps. (P.S. Working from home also facilitates this comfy summer/fall combo.) It helps to have super duper sandals (Chanel, above, The Row, below), but these by Arizona Love, Vagabond, The Row and Charles and Keith (or these) will also do the trick perfectly! Particularly with spot-on fall updates like this (last pic), this, this and this! Just FYI: There was an 800-person three-month waiting list (with me on it) for Dune's Chanel knock-offs; If you live in the UK, they just restocked and you can find them here. We Americans will have to wait for this to come.

These pics make it abundantly clear what kind of jacket we'll need to transition seamlessly, stylishly from summer to fall: the shirt-like jacket, this season's go-to staple, designed to wear over anything from a t-shirt to a sweater to a dress, depending on the weather. When it gets chillier, all you do is layer it underneath a heavier coat. The beige faux leather Samsoe Samsoe, above, wins for its versatility and flattering fit. (It also comes in this rich, darker shade.). The wool version from And Other Stories, below, is also a terrific option, and I also adore this denim-forever investment by Chloe.

Back to school, back to Zoom! My new style syllabus concentrates heavily on tops, specifically utility shirts, see above, statement collar blouses (Mango, below), and knit vests (Acne Studios, last pic). I've done some preliminary research and already found excellent electives: these patch-pocket shirts from Alex Mill (similar to above), And Other Stories, and Tibi; these collared blouses by Sea and H&M; and these oversized knit vests from Uniqlo, Isabel Marant Etoile and H&M.
