lake powell
Wednesday, August 19
I just got back from a week-long adventure on Lake Powell that was equal parts heavenly and harrowing. We rented/captained a 59-foot three-story house boat with a steep learning curve (to say the least). My childhood at the helm of 13-foot Boston Whaler did help with navigating buoys but beaching the behemoth was basically... trial by fire (or water, as the case may be)! Thankfully, another dozen-strong family on shore came to our rescue! Despite the additional (and daily) stress of figuring out the generator, anchors, wind direction/drift, water recession, and sulfur fumes, all the while contending with 100+ temperatures, we did just fine. We marveled at the otherworldly buttes, plateaus, crumbling cliffs, and deep emerald green waters. We water-skied, wake-surfed, paddle-boarded, swam, hiked, cliff-jumped and wake-surfed some more. And I even got to bust out my summer holiday finest, including the A Piece Apart dress, the reversible Marysia bikini, below, the floral Mille dress, last pic, plus this Tory Burch caftan (to also be worn excessively this fall with jeans and long shorts), this And Other Stories swimsuit (cute under an open button-down), and this macrame trimmed Jaline cover-up. Stockholm-based marketing exec Bria Jones finesses late-summer style with black and white simplicity--and I'm inspired to follow suit, starting with her crisp white Fillip K sheath, above, and the gingham Ganni (also here), last pic. More monochrome to work magic: this wear-with-everything 3.1 Phillip Lim terry top, this Anine Bing billowy slip dress, this Club Monaco black blazer (I love how she wears nothing underneath it!), this Moon River baby doll midi, and these classic black Bottega Veneta trousers.

simple does it

Sorry for serving up more Copenhagen Fashion Week pics, but I just love their inherent escapism and yesteryear carefree vibes. However, there is something noticeably absent: the camera-ready, over-the-top outfits. This time around, attendees appear to be keeping it everyday-real (shocker!) and simple. Which I can totally relate to! I'm particularly inspired by the fresh-looking loose-fit white jeans (this, this and this), black A-line skirts, simple shirtdresses (similar to below) and unstructured blazers, simple yet sleek tops and tanks, and denim bermuda shorts. More of this at home, please!

neutral territory
Tuesday, August 11
Copenhagen's fashionistas are known for their color-loving ways, but this year they're embracing more solemn, understated neutrals--a reflection of current events, no doubt. Pantone's Fall/Winter 2020 color trend report also prioritizes earthy tones, underscoring their longevity and versatility. To get me through this long monochrome run, I could use enduring pieces like these ecru SLVRLAKE jeans, this super flattering, forever-chic La Ligne midi, these leather Topshop culottes and ruffle collar blouse, this Samsoe Samsoe double-breasted blazer (on sale, immediately below), this check-print Ganni dress and this vegan leather wrap Nanushka skirt.

open for business
Monday, August 10
One indication that life is returning to some semblance of normality: fashion week is on in Copenhagen! “We need to keep the wheel spinning,” justified Copenhagen Fashion Week chief executive Cecilie Thorsmark. The hybrid event, running this week, will feature both physical and digital shows. “This isn’t a one-off ‘Covid edition’," she added, "but a new way to do fashion week. This is the kick-start of something new.” Bring it on, I say--and all of its new-fangled post-lockdown sartorial inspo. As shown in these most recent snaps, the Danes are carrying over their WFH staples to the streets, with relaxed oversized t-shirts, casual button-downs (specifically wide pinstripes), durable denim, sporty sandals, and easy shorts, aplenty. I'm more than ready to get back to business in similar transitional pieces, like this versatile striped shirt (in various shades!) and oversized but still flattering tee, sporty but chic sandals like this, this and this (sooo Chanel!), standout cut-offs (and retro ones too), billowy dresses (Cecile Bahnsen, below), and a cozy, throw-it-over-your-shoulder knit!

It's Friday--again!--and I'm tricking out my summer uniform with a pendant necklace--or three. I love Julie Sarinana's simple but stunning Enesea's pearl charm, above, as well as her $32 denim shorts by Brandi Melville! Other obsessions: West Hollywood's Pop Up Home, my new favorite (super well priced) vintage furnishings source, pictured below, and its incredibly well-stocked website; Urban Outfitter's new $179 (!) retro-cool bar cart, below; Fanm Mom's pretty embroidered linen dress ($245), as modeled by Heather Taylor, below; the $19 polo knit from H&M (hello, fall staple, cute in cream, too!); this OTT reversible Fendi swimsuit, and the ruffled and romantic Keepsake dress, last pic. Stay well this weekend!

The last time I was in Sardinia was exactly three years ago, but today I returned to the largest isle in the Med with Milan-bred, London-based marketing strategist Giorgina Clavarino, who's currently on holiday there. Okay, so I can't indulge in the same truffle pizzas and bellinis as her, but I can still treat myself to one of her utterly transporting swimsuits like the glamorously belted Hunza G, below, (also here), the gingham La Perla bikini, above, and the neon Laura Urbinati (below). I can also flit around in her And Other Stories puff-sleeve mini (last pic) and super flattering, super comfortable Mother jeans, and take up her penchant for the flirty and feminine with this Self Portrait floral blouse (below), dress and sunny midi.
back to basics
Wednesday, August 5
Although I'm not doing much of anything these days, my wardrobe workhorses have never worked harder! Button-down shirts, easy shorts, and jeans are putting in overtime--and that's an understatement. Lately, I've sourced a bunch of basics that are spot-on and right on the money (and perfect for post-quarantine life)! My current go-to's include the oversized shirt, above, the sleek slipdress (below, gorgeous with a white linen blazer), these belted linen shorts, these cropped and pleated khakis, and this jumpsuit.
