LA may be on the brink of broiling through another heat wave, but that's not stopping me from plotting how to stay warm and chic this winter. One unexpected, fun way: dressing up the humble hoodie--this fall's go-to layering staple--with a little luxe (faux) fur. The high/low effect is right up my alley! I could go for it with these hoodies from H&M, Topshop, Vince or Scotch and Soda, along with furry vests from Zadig & Voltaire, Diane Von Furstenberg, Mango (above), Michael by Michael Kors, and Chloe. P.S. I could also skip the hoodie and go straight up stylish with this Pixie Market piece!

Tying a sweater around your waist is all of sudden a new-new thing. As these snaps show, this simple styling trick instantly adds a layer of note, especially when the sweater is statement making. I am inclined to play with prints, textures and bold hues, with knits like these from J.Crew, Marc Jacobs, Tory Sport, Rebecca Taylor, Topshop, H&M, and Halogen.

big-time blazers

Blazers are back big time this fall with a new oversized silhouette. Balenciaga's voluminous version, above, is the trend's pioneer, with structured shoulders, an hourglass shape, and extra long length. Other designers are following suit, of course, and in some cases, a lot less expensively, tempting me to throw one on in lieu of a predictable fall jacket or coat. Among my favorites are these by New Look, Etoile Isabel Marant, And Other Stories, Stella McCartney, Masscob, and H&M.

My 8-year-old niece will be delighted that her favorite color pink is the new black. In other words: the current fashion favorite. Over the weekend in Paris, designers such as Valentino, Celine, Balenciaga, Givenchy and Rochas served up a series of Spring 2017 silhouettes that ranged from pale blush to eye-popping fuchsia. Fashion show attendees are already adopting this runway trend, blushing head to toe or, more discreetly, with just a pop or two. I could easily jump onto the bandwagon with these pink pretties from Topshop, Whistles, Mansur Gavriel, Zimmermann, Loewe, J.Crew, Prada, and Ganni (last pic).
