Given that I go to the beach year-round, you'd think I'd have the beach-bag-packing thing nailed down. Not the case. This summer, for some reason or another, I have forgotten to take a hat with me. So recently I resolved: if I buy a super cute new hat then I will not forget it, and, brilliantly, it's worked. Proof, above! Over the weekend, a good friend and I were going over our fall shopping checklists and she crossed off the fur vest, explaining it was not worth the closet real estate. I'd beg to differ, particularly with this example, which would work over a silk blouse, under an army jacket or a pea coat. And it nails the season's boho spirit.

"Tenor setting" is how Vogue describes these flared jeans, the new style for fall. I witnessed them in full effect the other day while shopping at Decades with a vintage-loving friend. In walked a chic woman, clad in head-to-toe denim. Her jeans, however, were far from ordinary. They were cropped, yet not so much to be considered culottes and were flared and hugged the waist. They also featured what seemed like a crease from an undone hem. In other words: tenor setting. To the point where my vintage-collecting friend--who does not own a single pair of jeans--shifted her anti-denim stance and announced that she was thoroughly obsessed. So, I tracked down these new blues by Rachel Comey (above), Sister Jane, Citizens of Humanity, and MiH.

For those who have enjoyed summer's all-the-rage block-heeled sandals (A.K.A., the new stiletto), get ready to step into fall's block-heeled pumps. (The ones pictured above are by Valentino.) The low heel offers easy-to-walk-in comfort and a bit of a lift, along with endless versatility. A plethora of options is already out there, but I've whittled down my faves to these by Chloe, Topshop, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Prada, and Asos.

Summer won't be the only season to see my feminine, flowy dresses. This fall dictates more of the same, but with a decidedly '70s vibe. Think romantic, bohemian-leaning frocks that go with September-suitable sandals to cold weather boots and tights. In my book, an anorak with luxe shimmery sleeves is the coolest way to transition into fall. That it can be worn both inside and outside is an additional bonus!
