draper james

When I think of friends I admire, Reese Witherspoon is up there. Beyond her well documented talents and achievements, there are also the seriously club-worthy dance moves in our morning exercise class, the absolutely can't miss reading recommendations (current pick--Luckiest Girl Alive), and a firm understanding of the glory that is shopping at consignment stores. And now, as of last month, there is her awesome new fashion brand that she somehow managed to launch between everything else she does. It's called Draper James and features clothing, jewelry, bags (including the cute tote, above), stationery, cocktail napkins, and home decor--all amazingly imbued with her distinctly vibrant Southern style. My favorites from the collection: this tasseled cover-up, this effortlessly chic shirtdress, this punchy floral print dress, these tweed gingham shorts, and this cute flowery clutch. Not surprisingly, things are selling out fast, but keep a look out for new desirables to be added the mix. You can check it all out here!

dressy caftans
Friday, June 5
Several good friends of mine have long been in the practice of wearing caftans as dresses, elegantly transforming the traditional poolside garment into a polished evening-out (or day-out!) frock. Leandra Medine, above, is clearly well-versed in this practice. I'm a big fan of this relaxed-elegant (and beyond comfy) look and would like to jump on the bandwagon this season with these languid lovelies by Christophe Sauvat, Madewell, Gypset, Warehouse, Etro (on sale!), Loup Charmant, and Julie Harrah. (I recently wore this Zara to a dinner party in Napa!)
in the red
Friday, June 5
I ate my way through Thursday, lunching at Jon & Vinny's (best pizza ever), then dining at Aestus (the cocktails are almost too good!). If I could do it all over again (which I plan to do!) I'll be wearing this day-to-night, super flattering, expanding-tummy-concealing dress.

making the cut
Thursday, June 4
At the Veuve Cliquot Polo Match in New York this past weekend spectators executed some winning summer looks. One of my favorites: Diane Kruger in a vintage Roland Mouret jumpsuit, above. Yes, the cut-outs are a bit daring, but they do provide much-needed ventilation, and the wide-leg, loose-fitting pants help balance out the skimpiness on top. Inspired, I hunted down some similar, yet slightly less skin-baring styles and found these by Asos (so cute!), Karl Lagerfeld (30% off), Tamara Mellon (40% off), Rebecca Taylor, and Halston Heritage. Check out more stylish snaps from the polo match here. P.S. It helps to have a cute boy at your side!

hoop dreams
Tuesday, June 2
I was never a big hoop earrings girl but Altuzarra's Resort 2016 collection, which debuted yesterday, is tempting me to convert. The designer paired bold hoops with each of his 31 looks, which ranged from sleek, tailored pant suits to vibrant ikat print dresses, highlighting just how versatile these earrings are. With big statement earrings poised for a comeback, I'd like to go loud and clear with these hoops by Chloe, Alexis Bittar, Kendall Conrad, Lana, J.Crew and Michael Kors.

hot and sticky
Monday, June 1
I flew back east this weekend for my husband's college reunion, where, along with the beer drinking, reminiscing, and marching in the P-rade, I sweated buckets in the humid, breeze-less, 88-degree (i.e., very un-California) weather. So while my husband caught up with his classmates, I sharpened my high-heat-index dressing skills. Next time I'm caught in steamy conditions, anything loose-fitting and white will be my best friend--not the form-fitting, high-waisted shorts or the long dark-hued dress I had packed! A hat with a wide brim, like this, will be my go-to, and so will comfortable, barely-there sandals like these or these (on sale!). I'll also have pieces like this Jenni Kayne shirt dress, this Free People linen mini, this lightweight Christoph Sauvat top, this Dorothy Perkins wrap dress, and this J.Crew linen jumpsuit at the ready--and I will be sure to have a jolly old time! Hip, hip, rah, rah, rah...
