the new top
Monday, January 6
A new year calls for a new top. One that is strapless, equal parts edgy and elegant and day-to-night wearable. Designers from Lanvin to Isabel Marant to Zara are serving up different iterations of the historically sexy bustier, and this spring I'll be tempted to try all of them. For starters, I'll work one that's a bit loose and flowy like this Alice & Olivia. Then I might up the ante in this leather Tibi (30% off) with sleek black wide-leg pants. For a night out with the hubby, you could catch me in this nicely-priced lace Devlin, under a structured blazer, with my favorite pair of jeans.

It's going to be 77 and sunny today in LA, but yesterday I was freezing in Colorado's sub-zero temperatures (pics to come). This stylish zipper-trimmed turtleneck would have helped!

old faithful
Friday, January 3
It may be the time of new, but right now I am really appreciating the old. Specifically my several years-old ankle boots. I am just not over them. I love that I can wear these boots wherever I am, with just about anything. Friends often ask me if they should invest in the original Isabel Marant Dicker boot and I, wholeheartedly, say yes. They are a classic. And so are these inspired guys from Madewell, Aldo, and Steve Madden.

happy new year!
Tuesday, December 31
Another day, another year. 2014, here we come! Customarily, on New Year's Eve, I always try to watch the sunset and say aloud the one thing what I want for the new year. (P.S. The small figures in the picture above are my husband and his friend paddle boarding into the California sunset a few days ago!) It's my version of making New Year's resolutions. These "vows" consistently include eating better, getting more sleep, drinking more water, doing my best, etc. This year, those same vows apply, along with.
sexy skirts
Tuesday, December 31
If there's ever a night to show some leg, it's tonight. Happy New Year! But these women, pictured here, prove that any old day warrants a sexy slit skirt. Leila Yavari, above, perfectly executes Preen's zipper-trimmed skirt (30% off here!), which cleverly features adjustable front slits. (You can find a more spring-friendly version of this skirt here.) Meanwhile, Netaporter's fashion director Holli Rogers (below) goes for it in an Esteban Cortazar skirt, and expertly tempers its seductive lines with a Chinti and Parker oversize sweater (that's now 30% off). Other slit skirts that are catching my eye: this daring one from Versus, this more demure one from Nameless, and this classic black L'Agence (60% off).

coco's coat and other great things on sale
Saturday, December 28
Sales mania continues. My twin sister's white tweed Isabel Marant coat, above, is among the many covetables marked down by a whopping 60% at Barneys. (I'll have you know that when she tried it on at the store in New York, she unwittingly prompted two other women to buy one for themselves!) Also up for grabs: my new favorite Fendi studded heels in beige suede; this gorgeous, can't-wait-for-spring-to-wear-it Stella McCartney dress, and this head-turning O'2nd fur trimmed coat. Over at Neiman Marcus, there are loads of New Years Eve-ready dresses on sale, such as this Burberry sheath dress (55% off), this Milly leather LBD (60% off) and this gleaming Michael Kors stunner (40% off). If you're in the market for chic wardrobe staples, such as Helmet Lang suede leggings (40% off), a MSGM's boucle jacket (40%), and Alexander Wang classic tees (30% off), head to My Theresa. If I find more goodies, I will share them over the weekend. TGIF!
