Happy Halloween! Both my sons will be trick-or-treating in Ghillie suits--easy and effective, one-and-done costumes. (A sign, perhaps, that they've inherited my style-hack gene?) California kids through and through, they gravitate toward surfer clothing; In fact, they define formal as putting on a polo shirt! At least right now, I'm down with their version of dressed-up, in light of how cool collared tees currently look teamed with more sophisticated pieces. I'd twin with my kids in these polo shirts by Lacoste (I have the men's small!), Ralph Lauren, Nobody Denim, Monki and In Wear.
When Celine sent its first denim-on-denim look down its Spring 2020 runway in Paris last week, I interpreted it as a vivid harbinger for stylish outfits to come. Well, it's already arrived! None to soon, head-to-toe indigo has hit the streets of Paris, as evidenced here. Take note: jeans feature a new shoe-grazing length and straight-leg silhouette, like these by Slvrlake (I also love this wash), Moussy, Re/Done (also in this shade), and Grlfrnd. For denim shirts, the key is not too stiff and more p0lished than rugged. I'd go for these no-fail staples by Current/Elliot, Madewell, and H&M.
Just in: the French Editor uniform acquired an American twist: the white t-shirt. Naturallement, c'est tres chic! And, lucky for us, easy to emulate. The key lies in its fit and heft: slightly oversized, luxuriously heavy-weight and, perhaps most importantly, snow-white clean (i.e., not distressed). I like these new iterations from ATM Anthony Thomas Melillo, Bassike, Splendid (cashmere!), and Ninety Percent.
Perfect fall dressing in one fell swoop--okay, three: the fringe, the check print, the oversized fit!
1. Joseph cotton jersey t-shirt,
2. Mango fringed blazer,
3. Slverlake jeans,
4. Anne Sisteron freshwater pearl and diamond necklace pendant,
5. Anne Sisteron diamond lock pendant,
6. Mansur Gavriel bag,
7. Steve Madden sandals,
After a dry cleaner mix-up when I received a Theory shirt instead of my husband's beloved Prada button-down, only one person was happy: me! Because I got a crisp, perfectly oversized blouse that I can wear all the time. Its relaxed, borrowed/stolen-from-the-boys silhouette is right up this fall's alley. (For the record, I tried to return the shirt to the cleaners but they insisted it had no owner they were aware of--perhaps a sign I should switch to another service.) Thankfully, for the rest of you, mix-up free, there are loads of desirable options out there that will undoubtedly make you happy from Vince, James Perse, Golden Goose, H&M, and Queen & Belle.
A friend of mine only had a minute to change out of her beach attire to catch a bullet train back to the city yesterday. When she re-appeared, 59 seconds later, she was wearing the cutest Rebecca Taylor puff-sleeve blouse (one I happen to have and is now on sale!) with jeans and sneakers. She looked perfect--and ready to go. Her presto change-o had me thinking that the puff sleeve top (i.e., a new fall must-have) might just be the answer to our hurry-up-and-look-cute quandaries--particularly helpful/strategic during the painstaking back-to-work transition. Other excellent options come from Isabel Marant Etoile, Ulla Johnson, Frame, Veronica Beard, and H&M. But wait, how cute is this one-and-done Asos puff sleeve jumpsuit?
I'm making the most of tank top time by wearing this season's freshest: narrowly cut on top, ribbed and fitted from H&M (in both black and white)!
I know, I know: fall is far, far away. But still. When an amazing fall find presents itself, I think it's worth at least some consideration. Especially when it's something you can wear it right now! Case in point: next season's must-have belted jacket. I'm contemplating whether I should snap up the do-it-all Stine Goya, above, or simply hit up H&M's low-commitment but highly-versatile version--and while I'm at it, pick up these key wide-leg pants and these faux leather wide-leg trousers to go with. But let's not forget: it's still summer, stylishly captured in these on-point possibilities from Opt (very Zimmermann at un-Zimmerman price!), Amanda Uprichard and Pamela Munson.
I can always use a little pop in my top!
1. Topshop ruched top,
2. Justine Clenquet cultured pearl charm earrings,
3. Charlotte Tilbury Love Lip Lacquer in Berry Nude,
4. Street Level rattan bag,
5. Aquazzura flats,
6. Frame jeans,
