Waze and an Uber whisked me across the 405 in the pelting rain last night for a San Vicente Bungalows dinner at with Metier's designer Melissa Morris, but my one-and-done Chloe cardigan also greased the (GRWM) wheels--stylishly fast. Initially forecast as a super-soaking atmospheric river poised to wreak havoc across California, the impending storm is now being described as a classic Gulf of Alaska low. Whatever it's called, I know that a coat is 100% required for the next few days, and I am looking to London-based Hannah Desai for rain-proof style inspo. She deftly opts for ankle-grazing, statement-making maxi coats that not only offer head-to-toe coverage but render whatever you're wearing underneath pretty much irrelevant. Good idea! At 6:55AM this morning, I logged on to H&M's website to get first dibs on the 7AM launch of the much-anticipated Rabanne x H&M collection. The website promptly informed me that it was reworking its site in anticipation of high demand and that it would refresh automatically when it was my time to shop. So there I sat, patiently (kinda sorta) watching my laptop screen (and phone screen as back-up!) to refresh for 23 minutes. Nothing. So, then I decided that I would just open a new tab and try logging in again and, behold, the site was up and running and--GRRRRR!--and pretty much everything already was sold out, namely the dress I had wanted, above. What did I do then? I engaged in some revenge shopping, naturally. Hello, beaded skirt and pearl-studded, tulle-sleeved sweater from Zara. I also ducked into the Rabanne x H&M's men's collection and scored this red turtleneck and classic pea coat.

I'm sorry I just have to boast about the holiday prep work I accomplished first thing this morning. It started with the H&M bow-trimmed sequin jacket, $49, above, followed by the $84 padded-shoulder sequin dress, below, both for upcoming festivities, then came the $24 horsebit fur slippers and the toggle fleece jacket to wear during intermittent down time.
