in the hood
Wednesday, January 6
I just learned from my twin sister that the best gift she received this Christmas was a present she actually gave her husband--and has been wearing ever since! It's this cashmere J.Crew hoodie, which she's layering under warm winter jackets. The resulting look is undeniably cool and practical. Evidence here. Personally, I love how a hoodie--whether it's the cashmere variety or simply the old school sweatshirt kind--tempers a fancy fur, so much that I too will be buying myself this belated gift! I'm considering these options from James Perse, J.Crew, Topshop and Neiman Marcus (on sale).

fantasy island
Tuesday, January 5
As long as I am feeling the summery sandal vibe (despite the dreary El Nino storm currently wreaking havoc outside!), I thought I'd introduce you to these new beach-ready lovelies from Daft. Beautifully embroidered, perfectly punchy and impossibly cute, these blue and pink linen caftans are just what I'd take to Fantasy Island!

in with the new
Monday, January 4
I just returned from Aspen, where I brushed up on my S-turns, sailed down a few (and my first!) black diamond trails and learned to navigate the terrain parks, with help from my two jump-loving sons. I also continued to work on my post-slope, frigid-weather style, which by the end of my vacation looked identical to the outfit, above: a mix of fanciful (thank you, Mongolian fur coat), practical (courtesy of a cute heat-trapping beanie hat) and easy (i.e., jeans and a basic sweater). Back at my work desk, I've discovered that many of these chic, chill-proof staples are on sale. The best of the bunch include these faux fur jackets by Smythe, Warehouse, Coach, and Asos; and these statement beanies by Neff, J.Crew, Topshop, Eugenia Kim, and Gucci. I also love these everyday jeans by Joe's, Rag & Bone, and Citizens of Humanity teamed with not-so-everyday sweaters like this Veronica Beard, this Esk, this Belstaff and this St. Roche. Happy New Year!

puffer style
Thursday, December 31
When I first moved to LA from New York I would scoff (in a very New Yorker way) at the Angelenos who'd bust out their puffer jackets when the mercury dipped below 70 degrees. Fast forward a few blood-thinning years, and I had joined the puffer crew. Now it's the thing I reach for before the winter morning school run, exercise class, market excursion, etc. And I'm thinking this season I'm due for an upgrade, one that pulls double duty: keeps me warm and standout stylish. My favorite (and far from the average Patagonia) options are by Uniqlo, Barneys, Michael Kors, Members Only, Penfield, Moncler, and Zara. (P.S. Anyone know who makes the puffer, above?)

off duty style
Thursday, December 24
As soon as I finish gift-wrapping (I've got a ways to go!), I am going to focus on one much neglected activity: chilling out. Yes, it's (almost) time to take it easy, and like Alexa Chung, pictured, I'd like to stay on my style game with some amazing off-duty updates, such as a chic oversized sweater like this, this and this; cropped, slightly faded jeans such as these by The Great, MiH and Rag & Bone; a cozy yet cool jacket like this; comfy, walk-everywhere shoes like these high-top sneaks by Vans (pictured below) and these cute J.Crew flats; and for a fun finishing touch, a statment-y pair of sunglasses, like these by Kate Spade and Ray-Ban (pictured below)! Merry, merry!
sandal weather
Tuesday, December 22
With crazy balmy temps on the east coast, it feels more like sandal season than the holiday season! Which leads me to contemplate all the new spring sandals already hitting the virtual shelves. While it seems counter-intuitive to buy sandals now, it's actually wise because the best ones always sell out before spring officially arrives! Plus, they'll work swimmingly on the next warm weather getaway. I'd like to take these by Fendi (above), Alexandre Birman, Splendid, Schutz, Sophia Webster, and Topshop.
