What I love about this brand new, luxe-looking, fur-soft J.Crew jacket is that (a) it's actually a fleece jacket but a million times chicer than any fleece jacket I own and (b) it can be taken in loads of fabulous, fashiony directions. For example: right now it can be paired with a casual top and jeans and, come deep winter, zipped up and worn under a wool coat. For me, it will go from the soccer field sidelines (where you can find me cheering on my kids every Saturday this fall!) to vacation apres ski.

Breaking news: the fashion gods have issued a memo to everyone in New York City, instructing them to wear only long skirts and dresses. On the runways (Derek Lam, Rag & Bone, Altuzarra, etc.) and off (proof in these pics), hemlines are below the knee or longer. Between you and me, there are some who believe that longer hemlines predict a stock market decline ahead. But never mind that China-slowdown stuff, let's focus on what matters here! The perk of this covered-up silhouette is that it easily transitions into the cold, winter months, with a pair of tights and boots. I'd like to work this major trend with these standouts by DKNY (this one actually just arrived at my doorstep and it's beyondo!), Whistles, Self Portrait, Tibi, Rachel Comey, Topshop, A.L.C., Alexander Wang, J.Crew, and Zara.

A pleasantly cool sea breeze blew in last night, prompting this new cute cardigan.

A new "it" bag always emerges during fashion week, but this year it's not just one bag garnering all the attention, it's one designer: Loewe. The Spain-based brand has lured in the front-row set with both its timeless and unconventional silhouettes. Perhaps the most coveted is the puzzle bag, a leather carryall comprised of numerous different pieces sewn together to create an original, origami-like shape (featured in pics above and immediately below). It's cleverly designed so that the bag can be collapsed and also worn as a clutch. I personally love the small and simple Bounce bag (last photo), which comes with a removable shoulder strap, and the Flamenco Knot, because it's everyday elegant and infinitely versatile. P.S. Typically it's the hero skirts, statement tops and technicolor accessories that trigger the camera flashes outside the shows during New York Fashion Week. This time around, it's--surprise, surprise!--dressed-down denim. Yesterday, (A.K.A., Day 1 of NYFW), show-goers, above and below, strutted out all manner of blues: cropped jeans, distressed cut-offs, deconstructed, high-waisted, frayed and bleached. All of it, I like! Because these pieces work--and make a statement!--in real life, not just on paparazzi-infested sidewalks. The most stylish indigo girls in my book right now include these by Vetements (pictured in second to last pic), Alexa Chung x AG Jeans, Raey, Steve J and Yoni P, Topshop, Frame, Tory Burch and Mother.

I went to a birthday party over the weekend, where there was lots to talk about: summer experiences, back-to-school jitters, the upcoming presidential debates--and the new ring a friend was sporting.
