cute clutches
Monday, March 26
I bought one of these JADEtribe clutches (the grey fringed one) the other day as a gift for a friend, but I ended up keeping it for myself. Oops. At least I can feel good about the fact that each bag is made by fair-wage weavers in Southeast Asia--and at $98 a pop I can buy a few more as gifts as well.
sheer sweater
Monday, March 26
I went shopping the other day with three friends at Heist in Venice Beach and one of them, a highly regarded fashion publicist, struck upon a woven Isabel Marant sweater. After admiring it for a minute or so, she remembered that she had seen a similar-ish sweater at Old Navy. Someone else in the store piped up, "Oh, yeah! I saw that sweater, too. It's cute." So, of course, I investigated, and my friends, it's true: it's way cute. Wear it with...
1. Old Navy woven sweater, $29, oldnavy.com
2. Topshop denim jacket, $80, topshop.com
3. Rebecca Minkoff studded clutch, $450, endless.com

Postscript: I kind of imagine Christian Grey would want to see Anastasia Steele in this outfit. Anybody with me on this one? If you don't know what I am talking about, you need to buy this book. Like, now. Seriously. (Don't worry about it being sold-out at the moment: just buy the electronic version of the book and, if you don't have a Kindle, download the free Kindle reading app for your Mac / iPad / PC.)

kelly wearstler's publicist's dress
Friday, March 23
I went to interior design diva-fashion designer Kelly Wearstler's office to check out her Fall 2012 clothing collection--and, of course, take in the sight that is her glamorously-appointed, art-filled space. Among the many amazing things that caught my eye--including the grey, yellow and white marble floors, the crazy big crystal chandeliers, and the coral carpeted conference room--was this marble dye dress from Kelly's spring range. In fact, Kelly's publicist, a recent New York transplant who used to work at Prada, was wearing this dress and she could not have looked any chicer with a grey cardigan and black booties. I am compelled to copy her. Wear this dress with...

2. Miu Miu cashmere and silk cardigan, $560, netaporter.com
3. Proenza Schouler PS11 clutch, $1175, proenzaschouler.com

it's a cinch
Thursday, March 22
Celine, Balmain and Alexander McQueen are all embracing wide belts this spring, whittling in everything from boxy jackets to pleated skirts to peplum tops. I am going to take a cue from Taylor Tomasi Hill and style (i.e., elevate) a basic outfit, like the one above, with a wide belt. If you're in the market for one, here are some options from Diane Von Furstenberg, Lanvin, Tory Burch, and Belgo Lux.

on the set with coco
Wednesday, March 21
Photography runs deep in my family. My dad Co Rentmeester was an award-winning Time/Life photojournalist and a successful commercial photographer (picture iconic Marlboro Man ads during the ‘80s). My older sister and my twin sister are also established photographers. As it happens, I style, help cast and produce a lot of photo shoots for Lucky, and my own home has served as a shoot location dozens of times. So, I am well versed in photo shoots, and for the most part (save the random snafus from bad weather to bad attitude), I enjoy being on them. Fashion shoots are as glamorous as they sound: there are trunks and trunks of next-season clothing and accessories, and seeing them is like getting a glimpse into the (retail) future. And then there is someone (frequently famous) to dress up, along with a whole cast of amazingly creative, well-traveled stylists and assistants, each with their own stories and visions to share.
A few weeks ago I accompanied my twin sister Coliena Rentmeester (a.k.a., Coco) on a British Glamour magazine fashion shoot in LA. And I wrote about it on Madewell's blog. Check it out it here.
P.S. I am on the right in the picture above.

leather and lace
Tuesday, March 20
By now you're familiar with my fondness for lace. So it should come as no surprise that I find this lace vintage-looking dress from All Saints perfectly dreamy. Yes, it's prim and possesses a little girl vibe to it. But these things do not bother me. I actually already own a few that look similar, picked up at flea markets in LA and London, but now I will update them by teaming them (i.e., tempering the frothiness) with tough black boots and a black leather jacket or vest. Very Isabel Marant Fall 2012.
