choker necklaces and then some
Monday, April 2
A couple of things I'd like to address: First is the choker necklace over the buttoned-up shirt. It's a very fashion-y thing to do; I've seen Lucky's stylists, editors and my sister execute this look. This woman pulls it off in a way that doesn't look contrived to me. If you're inspired to try it, here are a few sparkly chokers: one cheapie from Forever 21 (which I have and adore) and another by R.J. Graziano. Moving on to her sequin-trimmed jacket: It's from Zara, and I bought it when I was in New York two weeks ago. It's super cute, especially when paired with more informal pieces, like lived-in jeans. I love how this woman teams it with a casual checkered blouse, rather than something fancy or expected. This top could also be the coolifying (i.e., refreshing) antidote to the other past-season boxy cropped jackets I have in my closet. Here's a checkered blouse from Madewell to consider.

the everything top

This is one of those deceivingly simple blouses that seem so basic but offer so much in terms of wearability. I can attest as I've been living in mine, tucked in and with the sleeves rolled up--and wearing it in vastly different ways (with skinny light-wash jeans, fancy silver metallic pants, and a leather fringed mini). Because it's tunic-length, I imagine I'll throw it over a bathing suit during high summer and call it a day. It's my new can't-live-without wardrobe staple. Wear it with...
1. J. Crew chambray blouse, $59, jcrew.com
2. Iro leather vest, $685, netaporter.com
3. Topshop oversized canvas clutch, $40, topshop.com
4. Manolo Blahnik heels, $895, barneys.com

spring jackets
Friday, March 30
It's that time of year, when the weather is transitioning and a lightweight, made-for-layering jacket is in order. I rely on my Gap Kids army jacket (I wear it year-round in LA), but I've also been working a denim jacket, leather-trimmed trench, bomber jacket, and various iterations of the parka. Here are some other good ones.

just cos
Thursday, March 29
One of my most favorite stores in the world is COS (an acronym for Collection of Style). There's not a single one to be found in America, so it's one of the best things about shopping in Europe (namely London and Paris). It is H&M's upscale brand, offering well-made Celine, Carven and Marni-like silhouettes at very reasonable prices (i.e., less than 3.1 Phillip, for example). So, I was thrilled to hear the announcement this morning from H&M's CEO Karl-Johan Persson that the company plans to open a number of freestanding high-end COS-like shops in early 2013. The new brand is rumored to be more expensive than COS, but I am sure the stuff will be well worth it. In the meantime, check out COS's spring/summer lineup, plus some current (sharp, clean, cool) offerings. It might make you want to start planning your next trip across the pond.

jewel box
Wednesday, March 28
You may recall this mother-of-pearl clutch by Serpui Marie and how I came across it and its equally stunning brethren at a trade show in LA this past fall--and then how I proceeded to order 23(!) bags for my friends and me. (They paid me back!) Well, the bags just arrived in a box from Brazil and I am over the moon. The zig zag clutch above is my favorite, because it's so glinty and gorgeous and jewel-like. It's like holding a piece of art in the palm of my hand. My friends are equally happy with theirs. And none of us will care one bit that we'll all be sporting the same clutch when we're out on the town. Mine made its debut last night at a swanky dinner party for Valentino and garnered at least a dozen compliments. I am feeling very proud.

bow tie sandals
Tuesday, March 27
I love how the bow tie dresses up these summery sandals and makes them festive and party worthy. The shiny patent leather helps, too, of course. I'd pair them with a long flowy dress or a short snappy black shift. Dressy shorts or crisp cropped pants would work too. Clearly, they're very wearable. The ones above are by Miu Miu and the bottom style is from Asos.
