ikat jeans
Wednesday, February 15
Ikat + denim = Jeanious! Seriously, how cute are these printed jeans? They also come in toffee. I can't decide which one is cooler. But let's start with tried and true blue. Wear them with...
1. Uniqlo navy cashmere sweater, $89, uniqlo.com
2. Zara mini messenger bag, $49, zara.com
3. Chloe suede and leather high-top sneakers*, $575, netaporter.com
4. 7 for All Mankind ikat jeans, $189, 7forallmankind.com
*These high tops might seem adventurous and/or offbeat, but get used to seeing them. Every primo designer is offering high-end versions, from Isabel Marant (which are selling out on netaporter.com and are all the rage among fashion insiders) to Gucci and Lanvin. Check out style street star and Moda Operandi exec Taylor Tomasi Hill sporting her sneakers to a New York fashion show here.
rocky mountain high
Tuesday, February 14
The relentless snow flurries, the bitter cold, my frozen fingers--I loved it all in Aspen. You can't hate winter there; the place is just too remarkably beautiful. My friend Pam, previously mentioned, who lives in Aspen, and during the off-season, in Montauk and Mexico, has an amazing jewelry line, and it perfectly reflects her glamorous geographical trifecta: it's earthy-meets-beachy-meets-elegant all at once. And many of her gorgeous pieces are under $150. Here are a few of my favorites, from stackable rings ($25/ring) to a pave nugget necklace ($75) and a studded leather bangle ($65), all available at pamedesign.com.
staying warm
Tuesday, February 14
I just got back from a fun week in the snow (more details on that later). While it was amazing to breathe in the mountain air, ski, build a snow man with my kids, and indulge in some apres-ski delight (i.e., drink body-warming, velvet-smooth red wine), I also enjoyed sporting my cold-weather clothes, namely my plush cashmere scarves, chunky sweaters, and faux fur jacket--things that are very neglected living in LA. So, here's another wintry goodie that will serve me well on future trips to the mountains, back east and on those rare chilly days in LA (which we're in for this week, apparently). I love the classic double-breasted, belted silhouette and the hunter green wool (though I could see myself swapping the belt out with a vintage brown leather one instead). Wear it with...
1. Uniqlo wool coat, $169, uniqlo.com
2. Topshop sweater, $68, topshop.com
3. Fox fur collar, $433, farfetch.com
4. Chloe Louise bag, $2195, barneys.com
5. Steve Madden boots*, $139, stevemadden.com
6. J. Brand low-rise skinny jeans, $235, netaporter.com
* My friend Pam, who lives in Aspen, has these blizzard-worthy boots in grey. The side zipper and buckle amp up the boot's style quotient.
oh, mexico
Monday, February 13
Does this Asos dress not scream summer (or south-of-the-border holiday)? I love the woven Aztec fabric and electric colors. It's a total head-turner and such a no-brainer with flat sandals or striking heels. And it's $134.
bold blooms
Monday, February 13
A bright floral blouse might just be the thing to ward off the winter blues. Wear it now with black pants or a pencil skirt, and when the weather warms up, with shorts or a denim mini. I'd wear it with...
1. Warehouse floral blouse, $80, warehouse.co.uk
2. J. Crew Edie purse, $238, jcrew.com
3. Burberry London buckle sandals, $675, mytheresa.com
4. Tibi pants, $295, netaporter.com
metallic brogues
Friday, February 10
Reportedly, all the stylish girls at Topshop's corporate office in London are mad over these metallic brogues. Who can blame them? They have that hefty Prada-like sole, they're out-and-out comfortable, and they are gold, which means they pretty much go with everything. I'm sold.
striped staple
Friday, February 10
You can never have enough striped Breton tops. They're my wardrobe workhorses; I wear them all the time. Cute pockets add a gamine-chic accent to this navy and white sweater. Wear it with...
1. Topshop striped sweater, $76, topshop.com
2. 3.1 Phillip Lim mini satchel, $725, barneys.com
3. Loeffler Randall platform bootie, $395, loefflerrandall.com
4. Etoile Isabel Marant skirt, $385, netaporter.com

Although Fashion Week officially begins today in New York (with Vogue editor Anna Wintour, above, kicking off the festivities with a plush striated fur and a candy-colored choker), some designers showed off their Fall 2012 collections yesterday, including Derek Lam, who presented his 10 Crosby line. Below are images of my favorite looks, featuring what likely will be next fall's trendy staples: wide leg pants, chunky peplum cardigans, head-to-toe prints, oxblood-colored anything, and lots of fur. See the whole collection here.
easy shirt dress
Thursday, February 9
Here's an effortlessly chic LBD that you'll wear again and again. Wear it with...
1. Oasis shirt dress,* $100, oasis-stores.com
2. Theyskens' Theory patent leather and canvas bag, $325, netaporter.com
3. Topshop mesh leather sandals, $156, topshop.com
*Try swapping out the belt that comes with a dress with a very-right-now wide leather black belt or a more day-casual woven one.
my new crush
Thursday, February 9
Let me introduce you to my newest crush: Proenza Schouler's PS11 bag. It wasn't until I saw it in another fashion editor's office, perched on her desk, like a piece of art, next to the framed thank you letter from Alexander Wang that I decided I MUST have one of these babies. I love how it manages to be both classic and edgy (with its silver and gold hardware). It's a bag one can wear everyday, anywhere. Shorten the shoulder strap to make it more conservative or elongate it and wear it messenger style. Love. Here it is below, in black.
