blizzard boots

I'm thinking my twin sister, snowed in in New York, along with others digging themselves out post-Juno would especially appreciate these rubber moto boots by Joe Fresh. Very apropos, very stylish at $29 bucks! I also love these by Loeffler Randall.

south of the border

A recent trip to Punta Mita, Mexico, for a friend's birthday bash provided me with ample sunshine, quality time with the hubby, and more margaritas than I care to count. It also granted an opportunity to trial run spring clothing I recently purchased like this Natalie Martin dress, these K. Jacques sandals, and this Melissa Obadash bikini. And it made evident what other 80-degree-ready pieces I still need, such as this sunset cocktail-perfect, back-baring Alice McCall dress, this Lisa Marie Fernandez swimsuit, this J.Crew pom pom tunic, and these Valentino sandals. In between birthdaying, there was surfing, fish taco eating, and siesta-ing. Here, some of the highlights.
Late afternoon strolls along the beach were constants on our agenda as were frequent dips in the perfectly temperate ocean. My Joie cover-up, above, was my third and final cover-up outfit change of the day! This multiple-caftans-per-day practice of mine justifies my excessive caftan buying. Here are more I like from Vix, OndadeMar, Tt Beach, Vitamin A, Nanette Lepore, and Melissa Obadash.
Everyday I went running along deserted paths that winded through lush, jungle-like fauna. Though it was stunningly beautiful, I must admit I was little afraid that I'd come across a scorpion, or even worse, a jaguar. Such a city girl I am!
Our daily seaside lunch menu presented us with the trip's only hardship: having to decide what to eat! Everything was muy delicioso, especially the just-caught shrimp tacos, which I doused with pico de gallo and habanero sauce. Oh, and the margaritas were (nicely) stiff, too!
Patiently waiting (well, sort of) for said shrimp tacos in a Natalie Martin dress. See its brethren here.
Faced with another hard decision at the coconut stand... I went with the natural as I was still feeling the lunchtime margarita buzz. I'd say a smart decision on my part.
Ready to party in my strapless Missoni! You can find a similar one here.
Mother Nature beautifully choreographed the backdrop for my friend's birthday fete. It was one of the most epic (electric!) sunsets I've ever witnessed--and it's why I'll be back in Punta Mita one day soon! Hasta luego!

Here's another striped classic I'm going to add to my already robust collection, this one necessitated by spring's full-on embrace of the graphic print. I especially love this sweater's dramatic bell sleeves, swingy silhouette and $56 price tag!

It may be the dead of winter, but that isn't stopping some of us from showing some leg. Okay, so it may just be the tiniest ankle-to-toe bit, but it's enough to lend serious femininity to an otherwise covered-up ensemble. I'd like to give my everyday boots a break and step out in these skin-baring heels from Balenciaga (pictured above, I also like this version), Vince, Aquazurra, Phillip Lim, Joe's Jeans, Schutz, and Gianvito Rossi. All these shoes will nicely transition into spring, too!

I'm so not over Chloe's Susanna boots, which debuted several seasons ago and this winter have been re-issued with striking silver studs. The pic, above, accurately demonstrates their forever coolness.

on-the-go dressing
Wednesday, January 21
I'm all for dressing up when traveling, but a comfortable outfit is a must. For me, the linchpins to a good traveling outfit are stretchy jeans and a lightweight blazer. For a fellow female passenger on my flight to Mexico last week, the ticket was a short, off-the-shoulder dress, similar to the one by LN Family, above. The look was fun, fanciful, and south-of-the-border ready. (The Bardot neckine also happens to be a big Spring 2015 trend.) Although I wouldn't necessarily wear this kind of dress on a plane (too skin-baring, not emergency evacuation-friendly!), I'd definitely wear it from the tarmac to the taco bar and beyond! Inspired, I've tracked down some hot spring break-bound options from Rebecca Minkoff (I also like the long version), MLM, Asos, Topshop, Miguelina, and Isolda.
