lace up dress
Friday, January 9
Gucci's bound-to-sell-out lace-up denim dress from the Spring 2015 collection has yet to hit stores but already it's spawning doppelgangers, like this one from Topshop, which I just scooped up!

Some friends and I are planning a cultural expedition to LACMA tomorrow (yes, a nice lunch at Ray's will also be part of the program!) and I'm wishing I too could be wearing Aquazurra's chic yet touring-friendly lace-up flats (pictured above) to check out Chris Burden's Urban Light sculpture (which, FYI, consists of 202 restored street lamps from the 1920s and 1930s), among other highlights.

winter break
Wednesday, January 7
As I mentioned I vacationed in Aspen last week and spent my time making S-turns around Snowmass' evergreen trees, gondola-ing up and first-tracking down Ajax, and, of course, continuing the quest to perfect my slope-ready style. For starters, I finally found the perfect ski jacket: my new Authier. While its fabric is super-techy and fantastically insulating, the jacket, frankly, had me (as well as all my Aspen compadres!) with its glamorously oversize metal zippers. I also recently acquired these flatteringly-cut Bogner ski pants that my husband likes so much, he suggested I wear them year-round! They're fitted, flared-leg, and comfortably stretchy--and apres-at-The Little Nell suitable. Of course, clever layering is key in staying warm, but the trick is doing it in a way that is less Michelin Man, more Marlien. I've found that two thin long underwear tops by Hot Chillys (like this and this), topped off with a fleece works sub-zero at 10,000 feet. But this mid-layer fleece must be two things: very warm and very cute. Because when you take off your jacket for lunch or a hot chocolate break, it suddenly becomes all about what you're wearing underneath. So, on this past trip I bought this striped wool fleece by State of Elevenate. I also like these toasty options from Patagonia, Smartwool and Kjus. Off the slopes, it's all about statement sweaters, like this, this and this, perhaps a decadent faux fur reversible wrap like this (30% off!), plush accessories such as this J.Crew trapper hat, this bobble Asos beanie, and this striped faux fur collar, and great, snow-worthy boots like these by Sorel, Isabel Marant and Santana.

knee deep
Tuesday, January 6
As I sat around waiting (and waiting!) for my flight to Aspen to board last week I was treated to a fashion show-caliber lineup of the chicest winter looks. My fellow passengers were impeccably dressed in belted fur coats, shiny quilted puffers, tipped-just-so wool fedoras and more over-the-knee boots than I could count! I love that these boots are both Alpine cool and cold weather-functional--plus city-slicker-suitable too! My faves include Stuart Weitzman's Lowland boots, above (I also love them in black, available here), Dune, Steve Madden, and Aquatalia.
P.S. More to come on what I packed for the powdery slopes!

I spent a good twenty minutes the other day trying on these J.Crew slides in various chic shades but left the store without a single pair, as I couldn't decide which color I like best. Today, I have made my decision: the beige. But, they're all good, no?
